Big Announcements 05/05/2010
April's been a busy month for the band. We've been recording, writing and adjusting a few other things. We're pleased to say there are a couple of HUGE announcements around the corner and will make sure that as soon as we're ready to let you guys know, we'll post it here. ...watch this space! What’s happening in the world of Sweetmac? 18/03/2010
Last gig at The Old Bar was a hoot. We opened the night for Daughter Boy Jao, Damn the Torpedos and Telecom. We had a good crowd and were well received. The other three bands put on a great show and all up it was a very successful night. Rehearsals are going strong. We are working on some new songs at the moment and hope to be able to debut them at one of our shows coming up in May. We are still on the hunt for a new bass player so Dan can switch over to guitar and keyboards. We think he is getting a bit antsy about the whole thing because he keeps breaking out into guitar solos on his bass. It’s ok though. We still love him. Next show for us is on Saturday April 10 at The Chandelier Room in Moorabbin with Signal X Kill Kill Kill and Ibis Rookie. This will be Ibis Rookies final show together so we are hoping to make it a bit of a party night for them. We wish the guys and girl in the band all the best and thank them for the years of good music they have given us. Bands Announced. 04/03/2010
We're happy to announce that our up coming shows are now filled with delicious bands for your listening pleasure. There are a few familiar names there but we've made a conscious effort to try and play with some different bands during 2010. Of all of the bands listed here we've only played with 2 of them before so it's going to be spledicious. 13.03.10 | The Old Bar, Fitzroy w/ Daughterboy Jao, The Torpedos, Telecom 10.04.10 | Chandelier Room, Moorabin w/ Signal X, Ibis Rookie 23.04.10 | Brunswick Hotel, Brunswick w/ In Sol Inside, The Bluejays 08.05.10 | Revellers Bar, Fitzroy w/ Rainbird, The Government Thanks to all the bands who've been announced and we're looking forward to sharing a stage with you. Mick | Dan | Rach Ready for IDGAFF. 22/02/2010
We hit the rehearsal room hard last night in preperation for our first show of 2010. The start of some keyboard action is on the horizon and we're showcasing a new song "You Don't Know Me But I'm Back". The night kicks off at 9pm with support from White Like Heat and Shafro - with $4 entry it's set to be a tip top night. We'll see you there. Mick | Dan | Rach The Shows Keep Rollin' In 18/02/2010
Good news! We're finalising details of our 4th and 5th show of the year. We'll keep you posted as to who we'll be sharing the stages with but no doubt they'll be cool cats with smooth grooves and fantastic trousers. Peace out. Mick | Dan | Rach Keyboards Are GO. 15/02/2010
Last night we unleashed some keyboards on the Sweetmac sound for the first time. Well, the first time we've done it with any intent anyway. We rigged up the M-Audio Keystation 49 up to a MacBook Pro going through Garageband. This gave us more than enough sounds and the opportunity to try some new versions of the old classics. Both Control and our new song 'You Don't Know Me But I'm Back' (soon to be debuted at IDGAFF on the 26th Feb) are now subject to some synth wizzardry and the classic 'Clouds' has also had a facelift. These are exciting times with the opportunity to add another dimension to the sound. All 3 of us are happy with how it's turning out and we anticipate some more changes to some songs in the coming months. Hasta la vista, Mick | Dan | Rach Drum Recording Success! 09/02/2010
Hi guys. Mick here. So the recording session went well. We loaded in nice and early to get Rachel’s drums set up. I brought the G4 and set that up in the corner. We borrowed a set of drum microphones from the guy who ran the studio. Nice guy who is normally drunk. It took him around an hour to actually get all the microphones to us. All he had to do was pass the microphones to me. At one point he had to take a quick break from handing microphones to me to go up to the bottle shop and get some more beer. Wow! I wrote the word microphone a lot. Anyway. Once the drums were in place (we used a kick mic, snare mic and two overheads) we ran it through Logic on the G4 and got all the levels set up and were on our way. It was a bit of a tricky process. We ran my guitar and vocal mic and Dan’s bass through the pa. We then sent a feed from the desk into Rachel’s headphones. This meant that while Dan and I were playing, we could not here a thing. That wasn’t to much of an issue but I hate to think what Rachel was hearing. I’m pretty sure I was singing the songs in a different key to what we were playing. I imagine it would have resembled that recording going around of Linda McCartney’s vocals on “Hey Jude” So we managed to track the drums for 5 new songs. It all went smoothly with no major stuff ups. Rach played great and managed to stay cool even when I decided to sing the songs in an Elvis voice and add the word “baby” to the end of each line. I only forgot to hit record once and Dan managed not to insult anyone. The next step now is for me to record my guitar parts at home and then send it on to Dan who will record his bass tracks. Once that is all done, we will lay down the vocals and start adding all those weird and wonderful bits that every song should have. Hopefully we will have some new tracks up on the website soon for you to check out. Talk to you soon, Mick. PS: Dont forget to come watch us play on Feb 26th at Idgaff. Rehearsal to record drums 05/02/2010
This Monday we're going to hit the rehearsal studio and try something different. We've tried all too often to spend our hard earned cash on a studio to record drums so this time we're going to give it a shot ourselves. We'll hopefully use the time to record the drum parts for the new songs we're working on so we can at least get some working demos going. We'll keep you posted as to how it goes.
